HomeMy WebLinkAbout2026-02-17 Meeting Minutes Tuesday February 17, 2026 6:30pm Present: J. Gilligan, P. Mang, J. Sercu, L. Spence, Absent: R. Kent, P. Valentine, P. Van De Ven Staff: Megan Duby Motion 2-17-1: made by L. Spence and seconded by J. Gilligan to approve the Meeting Minutes of the meeting held January 26, 2026. Motion passed unanimously; minutes were received and filed. Treasurer’s Report: Commissioners reviewed the 2026 budget. Discussion regarding budget revisions to include additional programming will be made in March. Commissioners were encouraged to continue to bring ideas with budget outlines to the next meeting. It was noted that an invoice for the FOLA meeting is needed before the bill will be paid. Motion 2-17-2: Motion made to accept the budget as presented by J. Sercu and seconded by J. Gilligan. Motion passed unanimously. P. Mang-Gallery: P. Mang presented a 2026 schedule update and reported that Keith Beale will exhibit his paintings in November, filling the 2026 gallery schedule. P. Valentine-City Hall: P. Valentine was absent but sent a list of artists in City Hall for 2026. J. Sercu- MFTH: J. Sercu and L. Spence reported that over 300 bands applied for the 2026 MFTH season. All applications will be reviewed, and decisions will be made by March 15, 2026. M. Duby will provide a copy of the application spreadsheet to each of the 3 subcommittee members. P. Mang-Fine Arts Show: A new lead person for the fine arts show is needed due to the resignation of Grace Karczewski from the arts commission. A budget from 2025 was presented by P. Mang. No lead person has yet been chosen, discussion will continue in March. L. Spence-Kids Programs: L. Spence had no report at this time, follow-up needed with T. Davis regarding the location availability for 2026 programs due to current construction projects. R. Kent-Scholarships: In Kent’s absence, M. Duby shared that no applications had yet been received and that all applications will be provided to the subcommittee at the March meeting. P. Van De Ven-FOLA Updates: In Van De Ven’s absence, J. Sercu announced that the next FOLA networking meeting will be held in April. More details to come. P. Mang-Grants: P. Mang reported that she will be submitting a grant application to the Livonia Community Foundation. After discussion, it was agreed that 3 separate AIR Art from the Heart programs will be the basis for the grant request. NEW/ONGOING BUSINESS:  3 in one Series-Update on Sonatas in the Shadows: Tabled until the March meeting.  2026 Ideas: Programming ideas: o J. Gilligan will continue to explore the costs and logistics for a Food Truck Rally. o P. Mang proposed a $3,000 budget to partner with Livonia Community Theater Shakespeare in the Park program. This will allow a donation to the theater company as well as cover the cost of art programs for 2 performances (1 each weekend). Coordinating food trucks for the event was also discussed. o J. Gilligan has not yet received contact information to move forward with a film festival.  DIA Project Update: J. Sercu reported that he continues to work with M. Duby, T. Davis and DIA representatives to bring a mural to a city building. The team is currently working on gathering public input. OTHER DISCUSSION:  Kite Festival: o Steve Johnson and Vicky Johnson attended the meeting to present the idea of hosting a kite festival in Livonia at Bicentennial Park. They are in the process of organizing the event for either the spring or fall to involve the art students in Livonia schools and the Livonia Arts Commission. o They requested the art commissioner’s assistance in judging the entries for kite design. o Discussion regarding the donation of funds from LAC occurred, with a request for a detailed budget by the commissioners before any discussion and consideration of a donation moved forward. o A request for assistance in creating reproductions of winning entries was made.  Motion 2-17-3: Motion to adjourn made by J.
