HomeMy WebLinkAbout2025-07-25 Meeting Minutes Monday July 28, 2025 6:30pm Present: J. Gilligan, G. Karczewski, R. Kent, P. Mang, J. Sercu, L. Spence, J. Valentine, P. Valentine, P. Van De Ven Absent: None Staff: Megan Duby Motion 7-28-1: made by P. Valentine and seconded by J. Gilligan to approve the Meeting Minutes of the meeting held June 23, 2025. Motion passed unanimously, minutes were received and filed. Treasurer’s Report: Commissioners reviewed the 2025 budget. A concern remains regarding the balance of the trust fund. J. Sercu will follow up with personnel at city hall to get clarification. The Art Gallery budget will be updated to reflect current purchases. Motion 7-28-2: made by J. Sercu and seconded by P. Valentine to approve the budget as presented in writing. Motion passed unanimously. P. Mang-Gallery: P. Mang reported that the July exhibit will be set up next week and the reception held th on July 9 will be supervised by Lindsay Spence. P. Valentine-City Hall: P. Valentine reported that two artists will be exhibiting in July, and a wall was provided to the city to display bond information. L. Spence/J. Sercu- MFTH: J. Sercu reported that the concerts have been well attended. Due to heat, th the concert scheduled for June 19 was cancelled. G. Karczewski-Fine Arts Show: G. Karczewski reported that J. Gilligan is working with Schoolcraft College to provide food and that she provided a budget to him. The committee is still looking for a provider of chairs, tables and tablecloths. A detailed budget will be presented to the commission at the th August 25 meeting. Signs and printed ads will be distributed by J. Sercu and P. Mang. L. Spence-Kids Programs: L. Spence reported that numerous supplies for these programs appears to be missing. She will inventory the missing supplies and work to have them replaced. Due to the sharing of storage space, they may have been used by another organization. R. Kent-Scholarships: R. Kent reported that a subcommittee awarded 2 mini-scholarships in June and that the Senior application will be ready to go in the fall. FOLA Updates: None at this time. P. Mang-Grants: P. Mang reported that spree grant is due by the end of July, and it was agreed upon by the commission that a grant to fund two art programs for persons with special needs would be applied for. P. Van De Ven-Dance Convention: P. Van De Ven reported that there are approximately 50 participants registered. Speakers, stages and classes are all arranged with Embody. The event is scheduled for November 16, 2025. NEW/ONGOING BUSINESS:  3 in one Series: P. Mang reported that the first of the three-part series was scheduled for June th 26 from 6:30-8:30pm at the library. The music and dance events are in the planning stages.  2026 Art project Brainstorm: MFTH ideas discussed included having themed evenings such as Veteran’s night, 1969 Woodstock night and a police/firefighter night. Commissioners were asked to bring ideas to the August meeting for any type of LAC event.  Open:  P. Mang noted the donation of a beautiful painting from Carmem Gusmao, the galleries June 2025 artist. Patrice will follow up with the mayor’s office to determine the location for it to be displayed.  P. Van De Ven will email the LAC grant application to Megan so it may be posted online.  Discussion of the need for a marketing and ad budget for the commission. Motion 7-28-3: Made by P. Mang and seconded by J. Sercu to approve $1,050 for the purpose of providing $500 to create an ad/marketing budget with funds to be taken from the Kids Art programs budget.
