HomeMy WebLinkAboutPLANNING MINUTES 1948-12-30REGULAR MELTING Dec. 30. 1948 Minutes of the regular meeting of the Livonia Township Zoning Board, held in the Township Hall, Thursday, Dec. 30th, 1948. This meeting is also a Public Hearing to consider a petition for change in Zoning. The meeting was called to order at 8;10 P.M. by Chairman Johnston. Members presents Carson Johnston, Goerge Bentley, Robert Rewey Walter Russell and Attorney John Ambrose. The legal notice of the Public Hearing is read by Mr.Bentley. The petitioner, Mr. Brown, of the Standard Building Products Company requests a change in Zoning from M-1to M-2 on the following described property: Beginning at the intersection of the northerly line of the Pere Marquette Railroad right-of-way and the center line of. Merriman Road; thence northerly along the center line of Merriman Road, a distance of 1274.15 feet to a point; thence westerly a distance of 3984.57 feet to a point, thence southerly a distance of 783.49 feet to a point; thence westerly a distance of 1320.0 feet to a point in the center line of Farmington Road; thence southerly along said center line of Farmington Road 478.77 feet to a point in the northerly line of the Pere Marquette Railroad right-of-way; thence easterly along the northerly line of the Pere Marquette Railroad .right-of-way 5317.33 feet to the point of beginning, to be changed from an M-1 requirement to an M-2 requirement; said area being located on Zoning Map No.4. Mr. Brown now explains the workings of the prospective plant on this property. The investment will be approximately one-half million dollars, and the product will be a building block made in part from clay to be taken from the ground. Mr. Brown claims. there will be no smoke or odor from the process, and assures this Board that it will in no way become a nuisance. The pits will be back -filled and. at alltimes protected from children falling into them. Now followed a discussion on what would be done with the rest of the 130 actes of this property. Mr. Ziegler was present and questioned the Board on the uses permitted in M-2, his thought being that a part ofthis property could be used for Slaughter houses, etc. Mr. Ambrose states that while the M-2 permitted such uses, Meeting Dec. 30. 1948 - Page Two. a permit for same would have to be granted by the Board of Appeals. That this project also will .have to be passed by the Board of Appeals. Mr. Brown states that they have no intention of selling any part of this acreage for any purpose that would be detrimental to the adjoining residents, and that he would go on record to that effect. On motion by Mr` Bentley, seconded by Mr. Rewey, this change of Zoning was recommended to the Township Board. On motion by Mr. Russell, seconded by Mr. Rewey, the minutes of the meetings of Oct. 28th and No•;. 30th were adopted as read.
