HomeMy WebLinkAboutHistorical Commission 10-21-2020 LIVONIA HISTORICAL COMMISSION OCTOBER 21, 2020 VOTING MEETING 6:30PM ZOOM MEETING The meeting was called to order by Stephanie Miner via Zoom at 6:35 pm. Present: Mary Cambridge, Diann Dupuis, Nancy Frye, Lindsey Hakala, Kayleigh Kavanagh, Stephanie Miner Absent: Gary Pritchard, Sandi Pritchard, Deanna Brown Other Attendees: Ted Davis, Emily Tchorz-Fielder, Maureen Casey I. Review of minutes: Lindsey Hakala, Secretary September 16, 2020 voting minutes reviewed and edited. Motion 2020-10-01: M. Cambridge made a motion to approve the minutes and N. Frye seconded it. Minutes approved unanimously. II. Treasurer’s Reports: Mary Cambridge, Treasurer a. September Reports Income: $(550)* Expenses: $1195.82 Blue House Rental: $1527.39 Blue House Supervisors: $360 Preservation Commission Balance: $5686.34 *Funds lost due to refunds from COVID III. Reports: a. Chairman’s report: i. Welcome Kayleigh Kavanagh b. Commissioner’s report of activities, grounds review & participation: c. Greenmead Supervisor: Emily Tchorz-Fielder i. Maintenance Update: 1. Shaw House siding nearing completion (Randy Klepinger) 2. Madonna University football team- removed farm fence at Newburgh entrance and reinstall new posts and fencing. About 100 feet remaining needing fence (bought out all Home Depot had). Painted trellis’ in Hill House gardens and the white picket fence along 8 Mile and Victor Parkway. Moved almost all farm equipment into the lean-to 3. Bar donated from rental clients- Jerry from DPW cut down and painted to match ABH dining room 4. Jerry also replaced drywall in Farmhand’s House basement 6. ABH siding repair posted on MITN. Walk thru 10/15, quotes due 10/23. Power will be down at ABH on 11/2 to prep for repair. Repair to be done between 11/3-11/13. 7. Cedar Preservation Systems to be repairing ABH and DUR roofs. Awaiting date for service. 8. Tom (Volunteer) removed temporary bolts from DUR tracks and installed railway spikes. 9. Tom also restored the ‘doghouse’ over in the Hill Gardens (houses an old pump system) 10. Vaughn worked with Court community service team to paint outhouse, sheds, and 8 Mile DUR 11. Submitted for PO for North Barn doors restoration by Artisan Renovations ii. Future Maintenance Projects: 1. Finish painting in Hill House on first floor 2. Roofs on Kingsley and Bungalow 3. Install gutters on Shaw, Kingsley, and ABH (west and north elevations) 4. DUR - adjust elevation around steps and west side and add handrail, window/sill repair iii. Budget Status of the Trust Fund: $238,843.95 (as of 10/12/2020) d. Review of Events & Planning for Future Events:  Shadows from the Past, October 23: Walk rather than drive-thru  Highland Tea, November 7: CANCELLED  Livonia Historical Society Speaker, November 16:  Fabulous Finds Sale, November 21: ABH, only Greenmead items for sale  Livonia Christmas Walk, December 5: Cancelled  Christmas Tea, December 12: Probably Cancelled IV. Discussion on Mission of the LHC It shall be the duty of the commission to collect, arrange and preserve historical material, including books, pamphlets, maps, charts, manuscripts, papers, copies of domestic and foreign records and archives, 1 | Page LIVONIA HISTORICAL COMMISSION OCTOBER 21, 2020 VOTING MEETING 6:30PM ZOOM MEETING paintings, statuary and other objects and material illustrative of and relating to the history of the Northwest Territory, the city of Livonia, and the Township of Livonia; to procure and preserve narratives of the early settlers of such area, their exploits, perils, privations and achievement; to collect material of every description relative to the history, language, literature, progress or decay of our Indian tribes; to collect, prepare and display in the museum objects indicative of the life, customs, dress and resources of the early settlers of the Northwest Territory, the city and the Township of Livonia, and to publish from time to time source materials and historical studies relative to and illustrative of the history of the city and township, including such historical materials and studies as may be furnished for that purpose by educational institutions and the Michigan Pioneer and Historical Society. The commission shall cooperate with and assist the Michigan Pioneer and Historical Society and other local historical societies in the state. (Prior code § 2-1307) i. Discussion on approving & purchasing items with Ted in order to fall under city guidelines. The next voting meeting will be Wednesday November 18, 2020. Meeting Dates 2020: thththththst Voting: February 19, April 15, June 17, August 19, September 16, October 21, and th November 18 thththth Non-Voting: January 15, March 18, May 20, July 15, and December 16 Adjournment: Motion 2020-10-02: M.
