MINUTES OF THE 738 REGULAR MEETING
LIVONIA TRAFFIC COMMISSION

The 738 Regular meeting of the Livonia Traffic Commission was held in the third-floor
conference room at City Hall on Thursday, October 12, 2017; it was called to order
by Chairperson Jim Policelli at 7:30 p.m.
PRESENT: Commissioners: Jim Policelli, Gordon Draper, John Katers, Joel Turbiak, Rebekah
Farabaugh, and Jim Keller; Livonia Police Sergeant Brian Leigh; and City of Livonia Engineer
Todd Zilincik.
Agenda Item 1: The minutes of the September 14, 2017 meeting were reviewed.
Commissioner Turbiak noted that a grammatical notion was to be made for the TCO 17-5 that
was signed. It should be corrected to read as an agenda item followed by the Order and the vote
listed under that. After that correction, a motion to approve as corrected was made by
Commissioner Turbiak and with support by Commissioner Draper, it was:
17-249 RESOLVED: that the minutes of the September 14, 2017, meeting are
approved as corrected.
Agenda Item 2: iscussion with residents near the Yale and Parkdale
Intersections, section 32
n engineering firm has been retained to conduct an independent
survey of what, if anything, can be done to lessen the burden of speeding vehicle traffic or
sign replacement. The results of the study will be available when the study is completed.
Agenda Item 3: Myron/Vacri intersection, section 9
Commissioner Keller brought forth a unique intersection in section 9 at Myron and Vacri. While
the intersection resembles a T, it is not exact. With one yield sign to Vacri westbound traffic,
traveling south on Myron and approaching the intersection and opting to make a left onto
eastbound Vacri could potentially collide with Myron traffic coming north and turning
left. While discussed by the commission, everyone felt the conditions surrounding the
intersection did not necessarily merit adding additional signage at this time. No further action to
be taken.
Agenda Item 4: E-Mail requests/Police and Engineering updates
An e-mail was delivered to the commission regarding the Stark and Lyndon turn in section 21.
A motorist was concerned that the signage was hidden and should be moved to the island
separating the traffic movement on eastbound and westbound Lyndon, along with updated
barricades at the corner of the respective roads. The commission felt that signage and
barricading that is currently there is sufficient for the present time. No further action to be taken.
Todd presented the commission the most recent update to the 2018 roadway rehab program. The
largest project to take place will be Stark Road north and south between Schoolcraft and Lyndon,
taking place after the Spree is completed for the season.
Additionally, the Amrhein Road construction project is nearing completion, as is the Farmington
Road construction project. Water main repair work along Amrhein has also been completed after
it failed.
Roundtable Discussion
Commissioner Turbiak requested that Stop sign warrants be studied/reviewed in section 4 on
the following streets: westbound Carl at Norwich, eastbound Carl at Stamford, Pollyanna and
Carl, and Stamford and Pollyanna.
An idea was also brought forth to have a speed study conducted by an independent engineering
firm in the Burton Hollow Subdivision, section 16.
The commission discussed possibly adding informative articles relating to traffic matters via the
city website and/or the city newsletter.
Regarding the commissions budget, Chairperson Policelli noted that the commission does not
, but from time to time can request items that the Police Department or
the Engineering Department may be able to accommodate.
A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Commissioner Katers and supported by
Commissioner Turbiak at 8:55 p.m.
