MINUTES OF THE 735 REGULAR MEETING
LIVONIA TRAFFIC COMMISSION
th
The 735 Regular meeting of the Livonia Traffic Commission was held in the third-floor
conference room at City Hall on Thursday, July 13, 2017; it was called to order by Chairperson
Jim Policelli at 7:30 p.m.
PRESENT: Commissioners: Jim Policelli, John Katers, Joel Turbiak, Rebekah Farabaugh and
Jim Keller; Livonia Police Officer Stacey Hayne; and City Of Livonia Engineer Todd Zilincik.
VISITORS: Ray Majkowski, 34235 Lamoyne and Tammy Earl, 28980 Morlock.
Agenda Item 1: The minutes of the June 8, 2017, meeting were reviewed.
Commissioner Katers offered a motion to approve minutes as written and with support from
Commissioner Farabaugh, it was approved by majority vote that:
17-244 RESOLVED, the minutes of the June 8, 2017, meeting are approved as
written.
Agenda Item 2: Ray Majkowski, Coventry Gardens Subdivision, section 16, for follow up with
traffic statistic data from the speed limit box.
Five days of traffic data resulted in an average speed of 17.9 MPH with 236 vehicles per day. A
five-day total of vehicles resulted in 1068 vehicles. Highest speeds were 31-35 MPH occurring
around 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening.
The petitioner thanked the efforts of the commission and the Police Department for their help.
No further action to be taken.
Agenda Item 3: Tammy Earl, 28980 Morlock, section 1, regarding signage and street lamps
along Morlock Street.
Petitioner has become concerned with the intersection of Morlock and Parkville where her
residence is located. On one occasion during the late evening/early morning hours, a vehicle
collision resulted in severe damage to her property and vehicles. The petitioner is looking for a
“Stop” sign and/or lighting to make the intersection more pronounced. Upon discussion, neither
the stop sign nor lighting would really improve conditions at the intersection. The commission,
however, agreed that reflective tape could be added to the current signage at the intersection and
additional signage on the north side can be added.
Therefore, Commissioner Katers made a motion to add a “Type 4 object marker” sign (OM 4-3)
to the west of the resident’s driveway at 28980 Morlock, along with white reflective striping on
the “Yield” sign at the southeast corner of Parkville Street. With support from Commissioner
Keller, it was approved by majority vote that:
17-245 RESOLVED, a “Type 4 object marker” sign (OM 4-3) be placed to the west
of the resident’s driveway at 28980 Morlock, along with white reflective striping on
the “Yield” sign at the SE corner of Parkville Street, section 1.
Roundtable Discussion:
Todd reported that the signals and signal arms along Plymouth Road at Deering Road will be
taken down. While the signals are Wayne County property, the DPW will retain the signal arms.
Furthermore, “Stop” signs will be placed on NW and SE corners of Deering with M-DOT
furnishing the signage.
Farmington Road construction going north and south from Seven to Eight Mile roads will
th
commence on July 24 and last approximately 90 days.
th
Amrhein road paving will be occurring during the early part of the week of July 17.
The Plymouth Road project will continue once the Consumers Energy gas main project wraps up
along Middle Belt Road.
A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Commissioner Katers and supported by
Commissioner Farabaugh at 8:15 p.m.
NEXT MEETING: Thursday, August 10, 2017, at City Hall.
Respectfully submitted,
Jim Keller
