MINUTES OF THE 732 REGULAR MEETING
LIVONIA TRAFFIC COMMISSION
nd
The 732 Regular meeting of the Livonia Traffic Commission was held in the third-floor
conference room at City Hall on Thursday, April 13, 2017; it was called to order by Chairperson
Jim Policelli at 7:30 p.m.
PRESENT: Commissioners: Jim Policelli, Rebekah Farabaugh and Jim Keller; Livonia Police
Sergeant Brian Leigh; and City Engineer Todd Zilincik.
VISITORS: Jerry and Judy Morrone and Jennifer Jerore.
Agenda Item 1: The minutes of the March 9, 2017, meeting were reviewed.
Commissioner Farabaugh offered a motion to approve the minutes as written and with support
from Commissioner Policelli, it was approved by unanimous vote that:
17-237 RESOLVED, the minutes of the March 9, 2017, meeting are approved as
written.
Agenda Item 2: Stop sign request along Hix and Lyndon roads, section 19. Jennifer Jerore, a
resident in the surrounding neighborhood, is requesting stop signs due to the volume of traffic in
and around the Castle Gardens swimming pool and surrounding park. She commented that when
the pool club is open, the traffic, both vehicular and foot, is significantly higher and that
motorists often do not follow the posted signage.
Sgt. Leigh pulled the available traffic data. The results were speeds on average were around 18-
23 MPH. Also, crash data along Hix from Schoolcraft to Elise resulted in five collisions. Todd
will request that the work crews make sure all signage and striping along the crosswalks are
properly taken care of.
Agenda Item 3: City-wide vehicular parking on County rights of way. Mr. and Mrs. Morrone
pointed out that until recently Livonia did not have an ordinance prohibiting parking on a county
right of way. Recently the law department approved such an ordinance, however, no signage has
been posted yet by Wayne County. Many homeowners along county trunk lines have various
levels of materials used for “parking pads” which was not the intended purpose of the pads; their
intended purpose is for turning around. The Morrone’s are concerned about potential blight from
these parking areas, along with obstructions in the event of an emergency.
A suggestion on giving residents a gentle reminder about this new ordinance was utilizing some
verbiage in the City’s seasonal newsletter.
Roundtable Discussion:
Todd commented that the Plymouth Road construction project began on the right lane of
eastbound Plymouth through Livonia.
Adjournment was formally announced by Chairperson Policelli at 8:38 p.m.
NEXT MEETING: Thursday, May 11, 2017, at City Hall
Respectfully submitted,
Jim Keller
