LIVONIA TRAFFIC COMMISSION
The 722nd Regular meeting of the Livonia Traffic Commission was held in the third-floor
conference room at City Hall on Thursday, June 9, 2016; it was called to order by Chairperson
Jim Policelli at 7:30 p.m.
PRESENT: Commissioners: Jim Policelli, Gordon Draper, John Katers, Debra Murphy, Kevin
Priddy, Jim Keller and City of Livonia Police Sergeant Brian Leigh.
VISITORS: Jeff Jacobson, Christine Jacobson, Sue Work, Jennifer Molnar, and Hans Heiman
regarding parking on Grandon Street; and Dick McLain regarding parking along Arden at
Plymouth Road.
Agenda Item 1: The minutes of the May 12, 2016, meeting were reviewed.
Commissioner Draper offered a grammatical correction of the minutes under Item 16-215 to
read, "Resolved, pending approval petitions of the residents"be added and with support from
Commissioner Priddy, it was approved by majority vote that:
16-216 RESOLVED: The minutes of the May 12, 2016, are approved as corrected.
Agenda Item 2: Many residents were not aware a meeting had taken place concerning
installation of"No Parking" signs along Grandon between Merriman and Sunset streets adjacent
to Franklin High School, section 35. Several of the residents feel that the "No Parking" at any
time signs are too extreme and would detract from their quality of life. They would much prefer
to have no parking during specific times during school hours. The commission best felt the item
should be placed on next month's agenda and Chairperson Policelli will notify the other residents
of the possible change and invite them to the July meeting.
Agenda Item 3: Dick McLain from the Old Rosedale Gardens Homeowners' Association
introduced himself to the commission as the new president of the Association. He brought forth
some residents' concerns along Arden Street near Plymouth Road. The upholstery shop's side
parking lot meets very close with the public street and the residents are confused as to where the
lot and street divisions may be. They feel the vehicles of patrons to the business potentially could
be blocking the street. This issue will be referred to Todd for further response.
Recent Email Requests:
Regarding the intersection of Yale and Lyndon Streets, a resident is requesting "Stop" signs be
placed due to the high volume of traffic. Commissioner Draper requested the traffic data and
will analyze to determine proper signage at intersection.
Sgt. Leigh noted that the request for a radar box along Levan has been fulfilled.
A timing issue with the light to the entrance to Holmes Middle School was brought forth by a
resident living near the Newburgh corridor. The concern was the light should provide a break in
traffic between Five Mile and Six Mile on Newburgh Road. Sgt. Leigh stated the light is timed
correctly and no changes will be made.
Roundtable Discussion
A motion to sign Traffic Control Orders 16-5 through 16-8 was made by Commissioner Draper
and with support by Commissioner Murphy, it was approved by majority vote that:
16-217 RESOLVED, Traffic Control Orders (TCOs) 16-5 through 16-8 be signed.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:47 p.m.
NEXT MEETING: Thursday,July 14, 2016, at City Hall.
