LIVONIA TRAFFIC COMMISSION
The 719'h Regular meeting of the Livonia Traffic Commission was held in the third-floor
conference room at City Hall on Thursday, March 10, 2016; it was called to order by
Chairperson Jim Policelli at 7:30 p.m.
PRESENT: Commissioners: Jim Policelli, Gordon Draper, John Katers, Kevin Priddy, Jim
Keller; City of Livonia Police Department Sergeant Brian Leigh; and City of Livonia Engineer
Todd Zilincik.
VISITOR: Debra Murphy, 34066 Orangelawn, section 33, regarding speeding and traffic
enforcement.
Chairperson Policelli shared with the commission the resignation of Commissioner Thomas
Ambers.
Agenda Item 1: The minutes of the February 11, 2016, meeting were reviewed.
Commissioner Draper offered approval to submit the minutes as written and with support from
Commissioner Katers, it was approved by majority vote that:
16-209 RESOLVED, the commission minutes from February 11, 2016, are approved
as presented.
Agenda Item 2: Debra Murphy, 34066 Orangelawn, section 33, had previously sent an e-mail
to the mayor's office looking for assistance regarding speeding and excessive traffic. Sgt. Leigh
did follow up with enforcement on her street. As an east/west thoroughfare between Farmington
Road and Levan Road, Mrs. Murphy notices an uptick in traffic during the evening rush hour.
The commission noted that speed limit signs are in place. Sgt. Leigh offered to place the Police
Department's radar trailer there when the weather permits.
Chairperson's Comments:
Chairperson Policelli shared with the commission an article in the Observer about distracted
driving. He also noted a Traffic Conference on Friday, March 18, in Novi. Some commissioners
expressed interest in attending. The conference is free.
An e-mail was sent from a resident on Iowa Street, section 34, concerned about excessive speed
and hoping to have a sign placed. The sign requested does not exist per the MMUTCD and Sgt.
Leigh did add the area for traffic enforcement. No further action taken.
Roundtable Discussions:
Todd informed the commission of traffic counts being taken near the railroad crossings on Levan
and Stark roads.
Commissioner Priddy inquired about the light timing at Curtis and Farmington Road, section 9.
He commented that the light is not sufficiently timed between 6 and 7 Mile roads. Todd will
check with Wayne County to remedy that.
A motion to adjourn was made by Commissioner Katers and with support by Commissioner
Priddy, the meeting was adjourned at 8:34 p.m.
NEXT MEETING: Thursday, April 14, 2016, at City Hall.
Respectfully submitted,
Jim Keller
