MINUTES OF THE 74TH SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY PLANNING
CCl1MISSION OF THE CITY OF LIVCNIIA
On September 24, 1957 the above meeting was held by the City Planning
Commission of the City of Livonia at the City Hall, 33001 Five Mile Road,
Livonia, Michigan. Vice-Chairman H. Paul Harsha called the 74th Special
Meeting to order at approximately 8:00 p.m.
Members present: Wilfred Okerstrom Leonard Kane H. Paul Harsha
Robert Angevine Charles Walter Robert L. Miller
Members absent: Fred A. Lotz
William R. Robinson
*Robert L. Greene
Upon a motion duly made by Mr. Kane, seconded by Mr. Walker and unanimously
adopted, it was
#9-284-57 RESOLVED that, purse ant to a Public Hearing having been held
September 17, 1957 on Petition No. V-23 as submitted by Rev.
John G. Davies, Pastor, St. Paul's Presbyterian Church for
the vacating of certain easements in the Northeast 1/4 of
Section 24, the City Planning Commission does hereby recommend
to the City Council that Petition No. V-23 be granted subject
to satisfactory arrangements being made with the Detroit Edison
Company to relocate their equipuent, and
1[11. FURTHER RESOLVED, notice of the above hearing was published in
the official newspaper, The Livonian under date of August 29,
1957 and notice of which hearing was sent to The Detroit Edison
Company, Chesapeake & Ohio Railway Company, Michigan Bell Tele-
phone Company, The Consumers Power Company, City Departments
petitioner and abutting property owners as listed in the Proof
of Service.
The Vice-Chairman declared the foregoing resolution adopted.
Upon a motion duly made by Mr. Walker, seconded by Mr. Okerstrom and
unanimously carried, it was
#9-285-57 RESOLVED that, pursuant to a Public Hearing having been held
on September 17, 1957 the City Planning Commission does here-
by grant Petition M-79 by William A. Wood, Jr., Attorney for
the Hope Lutheran Church requesting permission to erect
church building together with sufficient off-street parking
on the North side of Six Mile Road approximately 1,525 feet
East of Merriman Road in the Southwest 1/4 of Section 11 on
a portion of Parcel 11Z1cZ2cZ3, and
FURTHER RESOLVED, notice of the above hearing was sent to
the property owners within 500 feet, petitioner and City
Departments as listed in the Proof of Service.
The Vice-Chairman declared the foregoing resolution adopted.

Upon a motion duly made by Mr. Kane, seconded by Mr. Walkerand unanimously
carried, it was
#9-286-57 RESOLVED that, pursuant to a Public Hearing having been held
August 20, 1957 on Petition No. V-21 as submitted by Claude F.
and Nellie J. Brogden for the vacating of a certain easement
in the Northeast 1/4 of Section 2, the City Planning
Commission does hereby recommend to the City Council that
Petition No. V-21 be granted subject to verbal amendment that
a 12/ easement not be required on the North portion of Lots
168 and 169 but only on the East side of Lot 168 running
North and South for the length of said lot, and
FURTHER RESOLVED, notice of the above hearing was published
in the official newspaper, The Livonian under date of
August 1, 1957 and notice of which hearing was sent to The
Detroit Edison Company, Chesapeake & Ohio Railway Company,
Michigan Bell Telephone Company, The Consumer Power Company
City Departments, petitioners and abutting property owners
as listed in the Proof of Service.
The Vice-Chairman declared the foregoing resolution adopted.
Upon a motion duly made by Mr. Kane and seconded by Mr. Miller, it was
#9-287-57 RESOLVED that, pursuant to a Public Hearing having been held
September 3, 1957 the City Planning Commission does hereby
approve preliminary plat of the proposed Bell Valley Subdivision
located on the Northwest borne!' of Ashurst and Five Mile Road
in the Southwest 1/4 of Section 16 subject to no building
permits being granted North of Lot 68 until ingress and egress
is secured to the North of Riverside Lane, Fairlane and Hollow
Lane and Commission is cognizant of the fact a clear deed has
been given to the City of Livonia for Outlots A and B as shown
on preliminary plat, and
FURTHER RESOLVED, notice of the above hearing was sent to the
abutting property owners, proprietor, City Departments as
listed in the Proof of Service and copies of the plat together
with notice having been sent to the Building Department,
Superintendent of Schools, Fire Department, Police Department,
Parks and Recreation Department and Members of the Plat
Committee.
A roll call vote on the foregoing resolution resulted in the following:
AYES: Greene, Okerstrom, Kane, Walker, Harsha and Miller
NAYS: None
NOT VOTING: Angevine
Upon a motion duly made by Mr. Kane and seconded by Mr. Walker, it was
#9-288-57 RESOLVED that, pursuant to a Public Hearing having been held
September 17, 1957 the City Planning Commission does hereby
grant Petition M-75 by Arnold Schmidt requesting permission to
install 14' x 20' sign, 2-faces on 2-8" beams set in 4fx4'x6'

footing with 4 x l' ,plate welded to each beam reading
"Hallmark Furniture" on a portion of Parcel 36A14c and
36A14b located at 28795 Plymouth Road and situated on
the Soth side of Plymouth Road approximately 3751 East
of Garden Avenue in theNorthwest 1/4 of Section 36, and
FURTHER RESOLVED, notice of the above hearing was sent to
property owners within 500 feet, petitioner and City
Departments as listed in the Proof of Service.
A roll call vote on the foregoing resolution resulted in the following:
AYES: Greene, Okerstrom, Angevine, Kane, Walker and Miller
NAYS: Harsha
Upon a motion duly made by Mr. Greene, seconded by Mr. Okerstrom and
unanimously carried, it was
#9-289-57 RESOLVED that, proposed Imonen Subdivision located at the
Northwest corner of Norfolk Avenue and Hubbard Road in the
Northwest 1/4 of Section 3 be tabled until October 1, 1957
in order to give petitioner opportunity to submit revised
plat showing all lots at least one half acre.
The Vice-Chairman declared the foregoing resolution adopted.
Upon a motion duly made by Mr. Kane, seconded by Mr. Walker and unanimously
carried, it was
#9-290-57 RESOLVED that, City Planning Commission does hereby authorize
Albe Munson, Planning Consultant to study road both sides of
Chesapeake & Ohio Railway for the full width of Livonia and
that report be available within 30 days.
The Vice-Chairman declared the foregoing resolution adopted.
Upon a motion duly made by Mr. Walker, seconded by Mr. Kane and unanimously
carried, it was
#9-291-57 RESOLVED that, Petition M-78 by Livonia Muffler Sales, Inc.
requesting permission to build and erect an electric sign on
roof of existing building on a portion of Outlot B4a, Green-
ette Subdivision located at 29155 Plymouth Road and situated
on the South side of Plymouth Road approximately 650 feet East
of Middlebelt Road in the Northwest 1/4 of Section 36 be con-
sidered October 1, 1957 instead of October 15, 1957 as stated
in Resolution No. 9-265-57 adopted September 17, 1957.
The Vice-Chairman declared the foregoing resolution adopted.
On a motion duly made, seconded and unanimously adopted this 74th Special
Meeting was duly adjourned at approximately 10:00 p.m., September 24, 1957.
