MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING
OF THE PLANNING CCI=MT_SSION 07 97-IE CITY
OF LIVO1IA
The special meeting of the Planning Commission of the
City of Livonia was held on July 12, 1950, at the City hall,
33110 Five Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan.
The meeting was called to order at 8:00 P.M. by the
Chairman, Mr. George Bentley.
Roll was called with the following result :
Members present: George Bentley Robert Iaclntyre
Harold Bower Clarence Jahn
Edwin Conway Carson Johnston
Dallas Hay Helen Byers
Members absent : Walter Russell
Also present were William Brashear, City Attorney,
and Tyr. Waring, of Waring Johnson, Consultants.
The Secretary, Helen Byers, read the minutes of the
regular meeting held on the 28th of June, 1950. The Chairman
asked for corrections. There being none a motion was duly
made, seconded and carried, and it was
RESOLVED, that the minutes of June 28th, 1950,
meeting are accepted as read.
There followed an informal talk by Mr. Wring, of
Waring r, Johnson, Consultants, on zoning, notification by
registered mail to all utilities companies of any changes,etc.
Chairman Bentley informed the assembly that the public
could not be barred from any meeting of the Planning Commission.
The Chairman reviet^,ed the form of meetings held b
the City of Detroit Plan Commission. Copies of their form
will be secured for each member on the Planning Commission.
The Chairman suggested that the City of Livonia Planning
Commission adopt an or•de?r of business for its meetings.
City Attorney William Brashear had the Chairman sign
seven Notice of Public Hearing and informed the assembly that
Notice of Public Hearing before the Planning Commission, to
be held on August 2, 1950, at the City Hall, was being pub-
lished in this week's L_vonian newspaper.

Bentley reported that the Planning Co �ission
may have the use of Bentley High School for public hearings
-
by filing a written application.
Petitions of Earl E. and I:ietta Bilger; and Luetta M.
Batson; for changes in zoning, were read. Descriptions were
checked and to I'Jr. Waring for Plat sketches of the changes.
There followed a general discussion as to the best
procedure to follow by the Planning Commission on ;Petitions for
reclassification of zoning.
Upon motionduly made by Br. Carson Johnston, seconded
by .'r. Clarence Jahn, and carried unanimously, it was
ti'ESOLVED, that all future petitions for reclassi-
fications of zoning be referred to the Committee
on Classification, who, in turn, will have Lr.
Waring make a Plat sketch before presenting said
petitions to the Planning Commission.
A letter from Mr. W. W. Edgar, dated July 7, 1950, to
the City Council calling attention to the dead-end street, south
of Six Nile Road and west from i=erriman Road, known as both
Purvis and Grove Drive, and asking that name of this street be
officially named Grove Drive, was read together the letter,
dated July 11, 1950, from the City Council with the recommen-
dation that said street be designated as Grove Drive.
Upon motion duly made, seconded, and carried unanimously,
it was
1ES0LV LD, that the Secretary write to The
Detroit Edison Company regarding change
of name of the street known by both Purvis
and Grove.
Mr. Waring outlined Elements of a I.faster Plan and dis-
cussed the importance of any City having a Master Plan. A copy
of his outlined plan is filed with these minutes. (Next page)
Br. Carson. Johnston brought up the matter of Hubbard
Avenue which should be a through street with an underground
pass at the railroad tracks.
City Attorney William Brashear suggested the Committee
on Flats investigate and develop a subdivision plat plan for
the City of Livonia.
Chairman Bentley appointed the Committee on Changes
in Classification to prepare a budget for operating expenses
to be presented to the Plan Caufdsdba at its next meeting.

Upon motion duly made by Er. Clarence Jahn, seconded
by Yr. Carson Johnston, and carried unanimously, it was
RESOLV.D, that this meeting be adjourned
until July 19, 1950.
The meeting, thereupon, adjourned at 9:50 P.M.
