LIVONIA TRAFFIC COMMISSION
The 677`h Regular meeting of the Livonia Traffic Commission was held in the third floor
conference room at City Hall on Thursday, May 10, 2012; it was called to order by Chairman
Joe Steele.
PRESENT: Commissioners: John Raters, Gordon St. John, Kevin Priddy, Gordon Draper, Jim
Policelli along with Police Officer: Sergeant John Gibbs.
VISITORS ATTENDING: George Diamond, 35835 Orangelawn, section 32; Peter Mignn,
14074 Ingram, section 22; Melissa Henley, 20685 Josie Court, section 4; Wendy Murray,
20693 Josie Court, section 4.
Agenda Item 1: The minutes of the April 12, 2012, meeting was reviewed.
Upon a motion by Gordon Draper, seconded by John Kater u it was approved by unanimous
vote that:
12-89 RESOLVED, the commission minutes from April 12, 2012, are
approved as presented.
Non -Agenda Item: George Diamond expressed concern with vehicles speeding on
Orangelawn and other neighboring streets around Garfield School in section 32. George
believes that additional stop signs would curb the problem. After a lengthy discussion
regarding placement of yield and stop signs throughout the community and construction
traffic from Plymouth Road and other vehide traffic operating issues, it was agreed that the
police, when vehides are available, will increase patrols in this area. George was also
encouraged to contact the police directly should he observe repeat vehicle offenders. No
further action will be taken.
Agenda Item 3: Peter Mignn requested a "Deaf Child in Area` sign for his special needs
son. After a discussion on the availability of signs to select from, Peter agreed to delay his
request until a later date. No further action will be taken until Peter or Suzanne contacts the
commission.
Agenda Item 2: Melissa Henley and Wendy Murray requested "No U -Tum' and
"Neighborhood Watch" signs at the entrance to their subdivision (Sarah Estates). They
state that vehicle traffic on Eight Mile Road enters their subdivision to'tum-around' and on
numerous occasions have caused landscape damage (photographs provided support this
claim). They believe placement of a "No U -Tum` sign at the entrance would end this
activity. Additionally, several vehicles park (some short-term and some attending overnight
activity) on the residential streets; they believe that a "Neighborhood Watch" sign would
discourage this activity. After a lengthy discussion regarding proper usage of a
"Neighborhood Watch" sign without a valid program, they were directed to Sgt. Mang for
direction to establish an authorized Neighborhood Watch Program. Throughout the
discussion, it was made clear that posted signs do not necessarily prevent vehicle traffic
from entering any street or subdivision entrance; however, in an effort to support the
concerns, it was presented by motion from Gordon Draper, seconded by Kevin Priddy and
approved by unanimous vote that:
12-90 RESOLVED, that a "No Outlet" sign (W34-2) be installed at the
entrance to Sarah Estate, on Sarah Drive, just south of public sidewalk.
RESOLVED, that the meeting be adjourned at 0:45 pm.
NEXT MEETING: lune 14. 7:30 om at City Hall
Minutes respectively taken and submitted by Jim Policelli.
