LIVONIA TRAFFIC COMMISSION
The 673rd Regular meeting of the Livonia Traffic Commission held in the third floor conference
room at City Hall on Thursday, January 12, 2012, was called to order by Chairman Joe Steele.
PRESENT: Commissioners: John Katers, Kevin Priddy, Cindi Quim, Jim Policelli, along with
Police Officer: Sergeant John Gibbs.
VISITORS ATTENDING: Paul Laho, 32671 Five Mile Road, Livonia (section 21)
The minutes of the November 10, 2011, meeting was reviewed.
Upon a motion by John Katers, seconded by Kevin Priddy, it was approved by mountains vote
that:
12-74 RESOLVED the commission minutes from November 10, 2011, are approved
as presented.
Agenda Item 5: Paul Latin stated that speed limit signs and crosswalk identification should be
installed in the parking lot between the library and courthouse. Paul stated that it is dangerous
walking from the library to the courthouse—vehicle traffic speeds and is discourteous to
pedestrian traffic. After much discussion regarding the types of traffic and pedestrian control
devices that are available, it was agreed that signage is necessary.
Upon a motion from John Katers and seconded by Jim Policelli, it was a unanimous vote that:
12-75 RESOLVED that pedestrian signs W11 2 and W167Pbe installed on north
and southbound Civic Center Drive between the library and courthouse and that
the existing crosswalk be repainted in a `ladder' style to enhance the crosswalk.
Agenda Item 2: A request from the police department to install `right lane must tum right" sign
on southbound Hubbard at Five Mile Road. At present, a painted arrow is on the right lane
indicating traffic to tum right onto Five Mile Road. After a lengthy discussion on the roadway
dimension of Hubbard Road south of Five Mile and vehicle count of traffic turning eastbound
from Hubbard Road, it was decided that the engineering department should review this location
and develop recommendations.
Agenda Item 3: moved to February 9, 2012, meeting.
Agenda Item 4: moved to February 9, 2012, meeting. Both agenda items 3 & 4 resulted in
lengthy discussions regarding site conditions and allowable signage at radroad/spm crossings,
site fines, traffic volume, etc. It was wisely decided by Joe Steele to move both of these agenda
items so additional information could be obtained for the February 9, 2012, meeting.
Agenda Item 6: Through an electronic communication from Milo: Marshall, he states that there
exists a double tum sign on westbound Schoolcraft service drive at Newburgh Road. Mr.
Marshall requested a similar sign during the September 8, 2011, meeting for the Schoolcraft
service drive at Farmington Roadsthiscondition should not be allowed because it is unsafe.
Upon a motion from Cindy Quinn and seconded by John Katers it was a unanimous that:
12-79 RESOLVED the double signals signs he removed on westbound Schoolcraft at
Newburgh Roads and eastbound Schoolcraft at Farmington Roads.
RESOLVED, that the meeting he adjourned at 9:05 pm.
