OF THE LIVONIA TRAFFIC COMMISSION
The 645th Regular meeting of the Livonia Traffic Commission was held in the third floor
conference room at City Hall on Thursday, April 9, 2009 and called to order by
Chairman Joe Steele.
PRESENT: Commissioners Gordon Draper, Jim Policelli, Kevin Priddy, Cindi Quinn -
Ventura, Gordon Sl. John and Police Officer Joe Boilos. Also in attendance: Tom
O'Connor, 19750 Flamingo; Dennis Gusmano, 19320 Flamingo; Robert and Claudia
Storms, 19414 Flamingo.
The minutes of the meeting of March 12, 2009, were reviewed.
Upon a motion by Mr. Draper, seconded by Mr. Policelli, and approved, it was
09-08 RESOLVED That the commission minutes for March 12, 2009, be
approved as presented.
Chairman Steele invited the residents in attendance to address the commission
regarding their concerns.
Mr. O'Connor, the spokesperson for the group, stated their concerns were because the
STOP signs on Flamingo between Seven and Eight Mile Roads were removed and
replaced with a YIELD sign and there is excessive speeding during rush hour times.
Flamingo is the only street that goes through to the mile roads. Officer Boitos stated the
police trailer has been put out on the street and Police cars will be in the area
monitoring the traffic flow. The commission will review this matter again when the
Police report is available.
The commission reviewed the letter received from Michael T. Slater, Director of
Finance, regarding the renewal of the Agreement with Traffic Improvement Association
(TIA). They discussed TIA's past performance and a suggestion was made that
perhaps it is time to check out the possibility of retaining a new company.
Upon a motion by Mr. Draper, seconded by Mrs. Quinn -Ventura, and approved, it was
09-09 RESOLVED That the commission approves the renewal of the Traffic
Improvement Association agreement.

The commission discussed the request to review NO PARKING signs on Newburgh
from Joy to Eight Mile Rd.
Upon a motion by Mrs. Quinn -Ventura, seconded by Mr. Draper, and approved, it was
09-10 RESOLVED That the commission postpones the discussion regarding NO
PARKING signs on Newburgh from Joy to Eight Mile Rd. until the May 14, 2009
meeting when Sergeant Sludl will be available for input.
The commission reviewed the Levan Speed Study,
Upon a motion by Mr. Draper, seconded by Mr. Policelli, and approved, it was
09-11 RESOLVED That the commission approves the recommendation by the
Police Department to increase the speed limit to 40 mph on Levan Rd. from
Plymouth Rd. to Five Mile Rd.
The commission reviewed the request received from LeeAnn Broderick, 35638
Grennada, for handicap warning signs for her autistic child. Three signs are needed at
northbound Park south of Grennada, southbound Park at Grennada, and eastbound
Grennada at Fairway (house is at northwest comer of Grennada at Park).
Upon a motion by Mr. St. John, seconded by Mr. Priddy, and approved, it was
09-12 RESOLVED That the commission approves the request received from
LeeAnn Broderick, 35638 Grennada, for handicap warning signs for her autistic
child. Three signs are needed at northbound Park south of Grennada,
southbound Park at Grennada, and eastbound Grennada at Fairway (house is at
northwest comer of Grennada at Park) contingent on a bond being posted by
Mrs. Broderick for this request.
The commission reviewed NO PARKING signs on the west side of Hix south of Ann
Arbor Rd. The signs were put up when the school was in operation.
Upon a motion by Mr. Priddy, seconded by Mr. Draper, and approved, it was
09-13 RESOLVED That the commission approves the removal of NO PARKING
signs on the west side of Hix south of Ann Arbor Rd.

The commission discussed a complaint received regarding people parking on Curtis
west of Merriman Rd. next to Rotary Park to walk their dogs in the park. . The cars
park on both sides of the street blocking driveways and mailboxes which limits residents
parking their cars in front of their homes.
Upon a motion by Mr. Priddy, seconded by Mr. Policelli, and approved, 9 was
09-14 RESOLVED That the commission will request City Council to review and
refer to the Parks and Recreation Commission a complaint received regarding
people parking on Curtis west of Merriman Rd. next to Rotary Park to walk their
dogs in the park. . The cars park on both sides of the street blocking driveways
and mailboxes which limits residents parking their cars in front of their homes.
(Abstain: Mr. St. John)
The commission discussed a request for a NO PARKING, STOPPING OR STANDING
Sign in front of Jackson Center.
Upon a motion by Mr. Priddy, seconded by Mr. Policelli, and approved, it was
09-15 RESOLVED That the commission approves the erection of a NO
PARKING, STOPPING OR STANDING sign in front of Jackson Center.
Upon a motion by Mr. Draper, seconded by Mrs. Quinn -Ventura, and unanimously
adopted, it was
RESOLVED that the meeting be adjourned at 8:45 pm.
