HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOUNCIL MINUTES 1970-04-13 11219 L MINUTES OF THE SIX HUNDRED EIGHTY-FIRST REGULAR MEETING OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LIVONIA On April 13, 1970, the above meeting was held at the City Hall, 33001 Five Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan, and being the first meeting of the new Council follow- ing the City election on April 6, 1970, such meeting being called to order by Addison W. Bacon, City Clerk, at approximately 10:00 P. M.. Reverend Gunderson delivered the invocation. Roll was called with the following result: Jerry H.Brown, Robert Bennett, Edward G. Milligan, Robert F. Nash, Jerry Raymond, Robert E. McCann and *Peter A. Ventura. Absent--None. Elected and appointed officials present: Addison W. Bacon, City Clerk; Virginia G. Handzlik, Deputy City Clerk; Edward H. McNamara, Mayor; James R. McCann, District Judge; James Mies, District Judge; Robert Osborn, Director of Public Works; LHarry C. Tatigian, City Attorney; Robert Turner, Police Chief; William J. Strasser, City Engineer; Ed Siemert, Assistant City Engineer; Frank Kerby, Chief Building Inspector; John T. Dufour, Superintendent of Parks and Recreation; Carl Demek, Superintendent of Operations Division; and Victor C. Phillips, Budget Director. By Councilman McCann, seconded by Councilman Milligan, and unanimously adopted, it was #244-70 RESOLVED, that Robert F. Nash is hereby declared to be the President of the Council for the two (2) year period commencing April 13, 1970. Addison W. Bacon, City Clerk, thereupon presented the gavel to the new President, and Mr. Nash presided over the balance of the meeting. By Councilman Bennett, seconded by Councilman Raymond, and unanimously adopted, it was #245-70 RESOLVED, that Edward G. Milligan is hereby declared to be Vice- LPresident of the Council for the two (2) year period commencing April 13, 1970. By Councilman Milligan. seconded by Councilman McCann, and unanimously adopted, it was 11220 #246-70 RESOLVED, that the minutes of the 680th regular meeting of the Council of the City of Livonia held on March 23, 1970 are hereby approved. The communication from Mayor Edward H. McNamara, dated April 7, 1970, tendering his resignation from the City Council, effective April 8, 1970, was receiv- ed and filed for the information of the Council. By Councilman Raymond, seconded by Councilman Milligan, and unanimously adopted, it was #247-70 RESOLVED, that Peter A. Ventura is hereby appointed to the Office of Councilman of the Livonia City Council to fill the unexpired term of Edward H. McNamara. *Mr. Ventura then proceeded to take his Oath of Office, as administered by Judge James McCann, and was thereafter seated. The communications from Robert D. Bennett and Jerry Brown, dated April 9, 1970, tendering their resignations from the Livonia Zoning Board of Appeals, were received and filed for the information of the Council. By Councilman. McCann, seconded by Councilman Raymond, and unanimously adopted, it was #248-70 RESOLVED, that pursuant to Section 21.02 of the Zoning Ordinance, Ordinance 543, as amended, and Section 5, Act 207, Public Acts of Michigan of 1921, as amended, Gerald D. Taylor, 36734 Sunnydale, Livonia, Michigan, is hereby appointed as a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals for the unexpired term of Robert Bennett. By Councilman Brown, seconded by Councilman Milligan, and unanimously adopted, it was #249-70 RESOLVED, that pursuant to Section 21.02 of the Zoning Ordinance, Ordinance 543, as amended, and Section 5, Act 207, Public Acts of Michigan of 1921, as amended, Robert R. Bishop, 15592 Hix Court, Livonia, Michigan, is hereby appointed as a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals for the unexpired term of Jerry Brown. By Councilman McCann, seconded by Councilman Ventura, and unanimously adopted, it was #250-70 RESOLVED, that pursuant to Chapter 7, Section 2-707, of the Livon- ia Code of Ordinances, as amended, Councilman Raymond is hereby appointed to the Board of Trustees for the Employees Retirement System. 11221 Upon direction of the Chair, the Council President's Committee Appoint- ments were referred to the regular meeting of the Council to be held April 20, 1970, The following resolution was unanimously introduced, supported and adopted: #251-70 RESOLVED, that the Council does hereby join the Mayor in pro- claiming May 1, 1970 as Law Day in Livonia. The following resolution was unanimously introduced, supported and adopted: #252-70 RESOLVED, that having considered a communication dated April 13, 1970 from Addison W. Bacon, City Clerk, the Council does hereby concur in the appointment of Virginia G. Handzlik as Deputy City Clerk.
