HomeMy WebLinkAboutELEC COMM 1968-07-09 MINUTES OF MEETING OF ELECTION COMMISSION OF CITY OF LIVONIA JULY 9, 1968 A meeting of the Election Commission of the City of Livonia was held on July 9, 1968 at the Livonia City Hall at approximately 4 15 P.M at which time and place the following members of said commission were present Harvey W Moelke Mayor Steve Polgar City Attorney Addison W. Bacon City Clerk Pursuant to Section 5, Chapter III of the Charter of the City of Livonia, City Clerk, Addison W Bacon, presided over the meeting as Chairman of the Commission. The Chairman stated that the meeting was called for the purpose of appointing Inspectors of Election of August 6, 1968 to be held in the City of Livonia, setting the compensation therefore, considering the 1968-69 Election Commission Budget, considering methods whereby the voting machines can be prepared for said election, as well as future elections Upon a motion by Commissioner Moelke, supported by Commissioner Polgar, and unanimously adopted, it was RESOLVED, that the City Clerk be requested to furnish the Election Commission complete list by precinct of those persons the City Clerk and Chairman of the Election Commission wishes to have considered for appointment to the various boards at least two (2) weeks prior to the Election Commission meeting for the November 5, 1968 General Election, inasmuch as it is necessary for this commission to now approve a list of Election Inspectors who served on the April 1, 1968 General City Election with an additional inspector of at least one (1) per precinct in some 44 precincts in addition to those appointed for the `:April 1st Election, further said list is now approved with the provision that the additional inspectors be appointed from a list submitted dated July 2, 1968 Upon a motion by Commissioner Moelke, supported by Commissioner Polgar, and unanimously adopted, it was RESOLVED, that the compensation for Chairman be set at $28 00 for the day and that of Inspectors be $24.00 for the day The following resolution was unanimously introduced, supported and adopted RESOLVED, that in view of the fact that certain firemen of the City of Livonia have been trained and served as election machine custodians setting the various election voting machines in the past, and with the understanding that certain firemen are no longer willing to serve in this capacity, the Election Commission is authorizing the Chairman to take advantage of the offer of the City of Dearborn to supply the necessary Election Custodians for the August 6, 1968 Primary Election to be held in the City of Livonia Further, the Election Commission of the City of Livonia gratefully express our thanks to Mr Joseph Cardinal, City Clerk of Dearborn, for his cooperation and assistance in helping us solve this emergency problem, and further, we authorize compensation in accordance with the established rates for this service Upon a motion by Couunissioner Polgar, supported by Commissioner Moelke, and unanimously adopted, it was RESOLVED, that the Chairman of the Election Commission be authorized to meet with school authorities and explore the feasibility of train- ing Assistant City Clerks in Charge of Election Machines and report back as to the cost of establishing such a procedure. Upon a motion by Commissioner Polgar, supported by Coimnissioner Moelke, and unanimously adopted, it was RESOLVED, that the Election Commission meet the week of July 15 for the purpose of discussing the budget of the Election Commission.
