HomeMy WebLinkAboutELEC COMM 1964-09-18 MINUTES OF MEETING OF THE ELECTION COIMISSION OF THE CITY OF LIVONIA September 18, 1964 A meeting of the Election Commission of the City of Livonia was held on Friday, September 15, 1964, at 33001 Five Mile Road, Livonia,Michigan,at approximately 4302 P. M., at which time and place the following members of said Commission: Harvey W. Moelke - Mayor Addison W. Bacon - City Clerk were present. Absent-- Harry M.Smits City Attorney. Pursuant to Section 5, Chapter III of the Charter, the City Clerk presided over the meeting as Chairman of the Commission. The meeting was called to consider and approve a resolution to establish a Counting Board for Absent Voter Ballots in Precinct No. 33. The Michigan Election Law gives the Election Commission the authority to do this. Upon motion of Mayor Moelke, supported by City Clerk Bacon, it was RESOLVED that, pursuant to authority set forth in the Michigan Election Law (NSA, Section 6.1792 (1) ), a Counting Board be established for the pur- pose of counting Absent Voter Ballots for the November 3, 1964, Special City Election to be held in conjunction with the November General Election, and that such facilities as may be available in the Water and Sewer Building, 15100 Farmington Road, Livonia, be used by such Counting Board. Mayor Moelke wished it noted that there was no reference to specific precincts in the above resolution. Upon motion of Mayor Moelke, supported by City Clerk Bacon, and unanimously adopted, it was RESOLVED that, upon legal counsel or statements Xn writing from the Director of Elections, State of Michigan (Robert Montgomery) that it is proper and legal to have a Counting Board for Absent Voter Ballots from only one precinct, that the prior motion to establish a Counting Board for all Absent Voter Ballots be amended to allow for only the counting of Absent Voter Ballots in Precinct No. 33; and further, that in the event the City must have (as the Mayor interprets Section 707 of the State Election Law) all Absent Voter Ballots counted by a Counting Board, that the Election Commission establish two Counting Boards, with precinct No. 33 being Counting Board No. 1, and that all Absent Voter Ballots from zviLaining precincts be counted by Counting Board No. 2, and that the Election Commission appoint Chairmen for each Counting Board and the necessary Election Inspectors to carry out the duties of the respective Boards in accordance with the provisions of the Election Law. There being no further business to come before the Election Commission at this time, on motion duly made, supported and unanimously adopted, the meeting was duly adjourned at 5:20 P.
