OF THE CITY OF LIVONIA
January 29, 1964
A meeting of the Election Commission of the City of Livonia was held
on Wednesday, January 29, 1964, at 33001 Five Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan, and
was called to order by the City Clerk as Chairman of the Election Commission at
approximately 10:02 A. M.. All members of said Commission:
Harvey W. Moelke - Mayor
Marie W. Clark - City Clerk
Alan Walt - City Attorney
were present, as well as Mr. Leonard Howe, Assistant Director of Election s of
the County of Wayne.
Mrs. Clark stated that Mr. Howe was requested to be present at this
meeting, as she was advised that he might have some information to offer the
Election Commission which would be of assistance.
Mr. Walt stated the purpose of the meeting was to discuss Mrs. Jean
Ward's appointment as Election Inspector for the Primary City Election to be
held on February 17, 1964, such appointment having been made at the Commission
meeting held on January 27, 1964.
After a lengthy discussion, upon motion by Harvey W. Moelke, supported
by Alan Walt and unanimously adopted, it was
RESOLVED, that the name of Jean Ward is removed from the
list of election inspectors appointed for the Primary City Election
to be held on February 17, 1964, and this position be replaced by
Marie Horgan; and the City Clerk may place this inspector on a board
according to her preference; the reason for removing Mrs. Jean Ward
being that it was brought to the attention of Mayor Moelke and Mr.
Walt by an editor of a local newspaper following a meeting of the
Election Commission held on January 27, 1964, that said Jean Ward is
the wife of a candidate for election in the Primary City Election,
and that a meeting of the Election Commission was immediately called
by Mayor Moelke and Mr. Walt for the purpose of expressing their
belief that it was not in the best interest of the City or election
process to appoint a person so related to serve as an election
inspector.
After a discussion with Mr. Howe regarding some problems to be
faced in the forthcoming State and National elections, there being no further
business, the meeting was adjourned at approximately 10:55 o'clock A. M.,
January 29, 1964.
