Meeting Minutes Tuesday, May 26, 2015 6 30 p m L Present Duggan, Eno, Fakhouri, Karczewski, Khzouz, Leeper, C Spurting, D Spurting, J Valentine, P Valentine, Voran Absent Pawlak Staff Swish Motion 5-26-1 was made by Karczewski and seconded by J Valentine to approve the minutes of the meeting held on April 20, 2015 Approved Treasurer Report Swish — The Commission has spent $6,737 Copy of report emailed to Commissioners Motion 5-26-2 was made to by D Spurting and seconded by Eno to receive and file Approved Gallery/City Hall Karczewski- Gallery—May is hosting Clarenceville Schools and the Visual Arts Association of Livonia (VAAL) will be displaying mixed media in June JIP Valentine- City Hall - May is hosting Brian Woolery who displayed photography June will host Sarah Koch and Dan Marceau who are students of the Class of 2016 from the College of Creative Studies Fine Arts Exhibition Karczewski —the 2015 Prospectus is almost completely updated Fakhouri is working on redesigning the prospectus and commission logo C Spurting will work on correcting the prospectus draft and will have Eno and Voran proof after reprint • May 26, 2015 Arts Commission Meeting Page 2 MFTH Duggan — Community Choice Credit Union has donated $500 toward the cost of postcards and a banner Duggan is attempting to contact other local vendors to donate with an opportunity to have an advertisement on the MFTH postcards Duggan will contact Pawlak to see if he has contacted any vendors Leeper will send out a mass media blast weekly announcing the upcoming concert and the future concerts of the season Scholarships C Spurling —the reception was held on 4-20-15 for the presentation of checks before the City Council study meeting following the last commission meeting Leeper sent a story that was published by the Observer regarding the scholarship recipients C Spurting suggested we table scholarships until September School Incentives/Grants. P Valentine — No report Will table until September Media Leeper. Has lots of plans Will send out information on the DIA exhibit to be held on Livonia Spree grounds Leeper will also send out articles on all concerts Social Media Fakhouri No Report Old Business — Environmental Sculpture Eno was contacted by a concern citizen-Jim Doyle regarding the condition of the rusty railings on the sculpture Motion 5-26-3 by D Spurting and seconded by Karczewski for paint and supplies not to exceed $500 to update the railings Approved Duggan to see if the probation staff can clean up the rails and possibly paint them Livonia Symphony Orchestra — "Patriotic and Pops Concert" to be held at the Livonia Community Recreation Center on June 18th at 7 p m All Commissioner encourage to attend this concert Paint N Pour- Pawlak No Report Leeper will contact Pawlak to see if he has found any information Solicitation Letter —To be tabled until June's meeting May 26, 2015 Arts Commission Meeting Page 3 New Business Shirts — Commission has chosen a new color for shirts — Strong Blue Duggan will check on pricing for shirts with local businesses Motion 5-26-4 by D Spurling and seconded by Fakhouri to purchase new shirts for the commission as plus extra shirts for future commissioners.
