HomeMy WebLinkAboutBOARD OF CANVASSERS 1956-02-23 Page 2214 MINUTES OF MEETING OF THE BOARD OF CANVASSERS OF THE CITY OF LIVONIA Pursuant to Section 12 of Chapter III of the Charter, the members of the City Council of the City of Livonia met as the Board cf Canvassers of such City on Thursday, February 23, 1956, at approximately 8:08 P.M., at the City Hall, 33001 Five Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan. The meeting was called to order at the above time and place by the President of the Council, John T.Daugherty, who acted as Chairman of the Board. Roll was called with the following result: Present-- John T. Daugherty, Rudolf R. Kleinert, John W. Whitehead, Nettie Carey and Wilson W. Edgar; Absent-- David L. Jones and Harry R. Killam. The City Clerk, Marie W. Clark, read to the Board the contents of certified statements of the returns of each precinct, as prepared and certified by the election inspectors of each precinct and filed in her office and these returns were publicly examined and canvassed by the Board, and were approved. By Councilman Kleinert, seconded by Councilman Whitehead, it was RESOLVED that, the following statemer}t of votes cast in the City Primary Election held on February 20, 1956: THE WHOLE NUMBER OF VOTES CAST FOR THE OFFICE OF MAYOR. The Chairman declared the foregoing resolution adopted and directed that certified copies of the same he prepared and be signed by each member of the Board. COUNTY OF WAYNE ) WE DO HEREBY CERTIFY, that the foregoing is a correct statement of the votes given in the City of Livonia, Wayne County, at the Primary Election held in said City, on Monday, the twentieth day of February, in the year 1956, for the nomination of candidates for the office of Mayor, City Clerk, Members of the Council and Constables of said City. By Councilman Carey, seconded by Councilman Kleinert, it was RESOLVED that, the following statement of votes cast in the City Primary Election held on February 20, 1956 for amendments to the Charter: THE WHOLE NUMBER. OF VOTES CAST WITHIN THE CITY OF LIVONIA WAS SEVEN THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED FIFTY-SIX (7,556): YRS NO The total number of votes cast on Amendnent #3 was 6,687 and they were given in the following way: 4,238 2,449 The total number of votes cast on Amendment #4 was 6,609 and they were given in the following way: 4,017 2,592 The total number of votes cast on Amendment #5 was 6,397 and they were g ive n in the following way: 1,712 4,685 The total number of votes cast on Amendment #6 was 6,795 and they were given in the following way: 23260 4,535 be and hereby is approved and certified in each and every r espect. COUNTY CF WAYNE ) We, the undersigned members of the City Council, acting as the Boardof Canvassers pursuant to Section 12 of Chapter III of the Charter, do hereby meet on this first Thursday following the Primary City Election held on February 20, 1y56, and publicly canvass the re turns of such election, and do hereby determine the result of such canvass and the result s of the votes cast within the City of Livonia on the following amendments: Amendment #3, An amen dnent changing the salary of the Mayor of the City of Livonia, and do hereby determine that said Amendment #3 was duly adopted by 1,238 Yes votes and 2,119 No votes. Amendment #1, An anendment changing the salary of the City Treasurer of the City of Livonia, and do hereby determine that said Amendment #1 was duly adopted by 14 017 Yes votes and 2,592 No votes. Amendment #5, An amendment to change the tax limitation as now specified in the Charter of the City of Livonia, and do hereby determine that said amendment #5 was duly rejected by 1,685 No votes and 1,712 Yes votes. Amendment #6, An amendment adding a section to the Charter fixing a disqualification by reason of conviction of felony for the holding of office, elective or appointive, in the City of Livonia, and employment by the City of Livonia, and do hereby determ_ne that said Amendment #6 wasduly rejected by 1,535 No votes and 2,260 Yes votes. On motion of Councilman Whitehead, seconded by Councilman Carey and unanimously adopted, the meeting was adjourned at approximately 8:32 P.
