HomeMy WebLinkAboutBOARD OF CANVASSERS 1962-04-28 ADJOURNED Page 5407 MINUTES OF THE ADJOURNED MEETING OF THE BOARD OF CANVASSERS OF THE CITY OF LIVONIA Pursuant to Section 876 of the L1ws Relating to Elections in the State of Michigan, and Section 14 of Chapter III of the Charter of the City of Livonia, the members of the Council of the City of Livonia met as a Board of Canvassers of such City in an adjourned meeting on Saturday, April 28, 1962, at the Storage Building located at 11400 Merriman Road, Livonia, Michigan. The meeting was called to order at approximately 9:00 o'clock a. m., by Sydney B. Bagnall, President of the Council acting as Chairman of the Board. Roll was called with the following result: Present-- Sydney B. Bagnall, James R. McCann, John T. Daugherty, Rudolf R. Kleinert and Jack Salvadore. Absent-- William N. Ponder and Austin T.Grant. Also present, pursuant to approved recount procedures set forth by the City Attorney were: Marie W. Clark, City Clerk; Juanita Hillas, Deputy City Clerk; Alan Walt, City Attorney; two tally clerks, William R. Robinson and Victor C. Phillips; three voting machine custodians, William A. Koenig, Wilfred H. Clark and James E. Matthews; James E. Mies, attorney on behalf of William W. Brashear; Robert W. Kelly, attorney on behalf of Harvey W. Moelke; J. L. Hyman, attorney on behalf of Peter A. Ventura; Lonnie Brashear and Jack Burgess, representatives for William W. Brashear; Ed Wolen, Robert Shaw and James Purdy, representatives for Harvey Moelke; Thomas Mitchell and William Duffy, representatives for Peter A.Ventura; candidates Peter A. Ventura and Edward H. McNamara; and Irma B. Miller, Court Reporter. By Councilman Daugherty, seconded by Councilman Salvadore and unanimously adopted, it was RESOLVED that, in accordance with provisions of Section 874 of the Michigan Election Laws, the results of the canvass of the Livonia Board of Canvassers, dated April 5, 1962, are hereby revoked. The Board of Canvassers then proceeded to re canvass the votes of all 26 precincts for the office of Mayor, and votes cast for candidates Peter A. Ventura, Page 5108 Edward H. McNamara and Martin G. Scully for the office of Councilman, all of which proceedings were recorded verbatim by the court reporter. Upon motion by Councilman Daugherty, seconded by Councilman McCann and unanimously adopted, it was RESOLVED that, this meeting of the Board of Canvassers is hereby adjourned to Tuesday, May 1, 1962, at 8:00 p. m., at the Livonia City Hall, 33001 Five Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan, and that the challenging candidates and/or their representatives summarize and present to the Board of Canvassers, in writing, at that meeting their specific objections, challenges and positions on the results of the recount procedures. Whereupon, this meeting of the Board of Canvassers was adjourned at approximately 3:50 o'clock p. m., April 28, 1962. Mari; . Clark, City Clerk
