OF THE WHOLE HELD JULY 2, 1951
The above meeting was held at the City Hall and commenced at
approximately 8:20 P. M. The meeting was presided over by Mrs. Nettie Carey,
who was designated as Chairman by the President. Roll was called with the
following result: Present-- Harry S. Wolfe, Wilson W. Edgar, Nettie Carey,
Harvey Jahn, William Taylor and John Whitehead. Absent-- Raymond E. Grimm.
Mr. Grimm later appeared at 8:45 P. M.
The meeting was called for the purpose of obtaining information
regarding charges for the pick up of garbage and rubbish. The following
collectors appeared and gave information:
Mr. Sawyer - 193 Hamilton, Plymouth, Michigan.
Rates: $1.25 per month for residents
2150 per month for commercial
Route: Plymouth Road through Alden Village.
Also the area in the vicinity of the Gity Hall.
Equip: Ford Truck - 5 yard bed
Ford Truck - 2-1/2 yard bed
Dump: Nankin Township - private dump south of
Joy Road and west of Wayne Road.
Has 150 customers, operates on Saturdays only. Approximately 7
*ork hours per week per truck.
C. LENT - 34760 Pinetree, Livonia, Michigan.
Rates: $1.50 per month for residents
2.00 per month for commercial.
Route: Seven Mile to Five Mile
Middlebelt Road to Farm_ngton Road
Equip: 1940 Ford Stake Truck
Dump: Nankin Township - private dump south of
Joy Road and West of Wayne Road.
Operates on Saturdays only. Works 12 to 14 hours a week.
J. J. LILLY - 27726 Ann Arbor Trail, Livonia, Michigan.
Rates: $1.00 to $1.25, if set out
1.25 to 1.50, if he has to carry it out
2.50 to 7.50 for commercial.
Route: Mayfield to Merriman Road
West Chicago to Plymouth noad
Also the Race Track.
Equip: 1941 Chevrolet dump truck
1939 GMC dump truck
Dump: Nankin Township - private dump south of Joy
Road and west of Wayne Road.
One truck works 5 to 5-1/2 days per week. He has son-in-law helping
him and they put in 50 to 60 hours per week.
JAMES D. HADEN - 35525 Kenndell, Wayne, Michig'n.
Rates: $1.00 to $2.00 per month
3.00 to 20.00 per month for commercial
Route: All over City of Livonia
Joy Road to Eight Mile Road end
Haggerty Road to Inkster Road.
Imm Equip: Ford Truck.
Dump: Nankin Township.
He was not in favor of the City being divided into districts, as the
others had been, because he has been serving his customers since 1932.
He works 4-1/2 to 6 days per week and averages 50 hours per week.
WALTER C. ALDRICH - 15502 Wakenden, Redford Township
Operates as Aldrich Landscape and Supply Company
Rates: $1.50 per month for curb pickup
1.00 per week for pick up at rear of property
3.00 and up for commercial
Route: Six Mile to Fourteen Mile Road
Inkster Road to Gill Road,
Equip: 1949 Chevrolet Stake Truck
1950 Chevrolet Stake Truck
1948 Ford with 8 yard box
Chevrolet with 12 yard box
One other.
Dump: Nankin Township.
Approximately 25% of the business is in Livonia, the rest is in
Farmington Township. has six employees working for him. The pick up
from each customer is once a week.
CHARLES A. CARVEY 714 Beck Road, Plymouth, Michigan.
Rates: $1.00 to $2.00 depending on amount to be picked up
3.00 to 30.00 for commercial
ROUTE: New Detroit Subdivision and any part of the
City that does not have service. Also along Five
Mile Road between Eckles and Inkster Roads.
Equip: 1951 Ford Stake Truck
1934 Stake Trudk
1940 Dump Truck (not in use now)
Dump: Nankin Township
Work 5 hours a day, 3 to 4 days a week. Has son helping hi*.
WM. ZORMLIER
Rates: $1.25 per month for curb pick up
1.50 otherwise
No commercial rates
Route: Seven Mile to Plymouth Road,
Inkster Road to -
Equipment: 1948 2-1/2 ton GMC truck
Dump: Nankin Township in the morning,
Middlebelt and Ann Arbor Trail in the afternoon.
He and two helpers put in a total of 10 working hours on Saturday.
On motion of Jahn, seconded by Whitehead and unanimously carried,
the meeting was adjourned at approximately 10:10 P. M., July 2, 1951.
